13 layers pieced together by hand

    Description:

Unique wood layered contour map of the Moreton Bay and Brisbane region (Queensland, Australia).

Depicting bathymetric data (topography of the water) in stunning detail. Each 1mm layer of the map is made from sustainably sourced plywood and is cut using a high precision laser cutter. One layer represents 1.5m-2m of water depth. The individual pieces of wood are carefully hand assembled to create the stunning ocean floor.
White acrylic is used for the top layer representing the land. We chose to leave the land without markings to focus the eye and intention beneath the water.
The map is encased with a high quality plexiglass and finished with a white natural hardwood frame so it is ready to hang.

Beautifully packaged in a wooden box, it makes the perfect gift or unique addition to any interior.

2 5 While the actual map is excellent, it is really let down by a very poor quality frame which had dark marks on it, was chipped and the Perspex scratched. I thought about complaining as I spent close to $400, but imagined I would receive no joy. I would probably need to spend another $400 to get it properly framed instead of the shoddy job it came in.
