Only a few days before Christmas we got the bad news

My gorgeous Mum  

One of those situations where a normal urine test uncovers something not quite right.
An ultrasound discovered
a large tumor near the ovary.

And just like you shouldn't,
I goggled Ovarian cancer.

10th most common women's cancer
6th most common cause of death from cancer
The most common form of Ovarian cancer can go from early stage to advanced stage within a year.

Symptoms are vague
Bloating
Tiredness
Feeling full or no appetite
(hello peri-menopause)
And there's no definitive test or screening.

It was like the world stopped.
My Mum is always there
Sharing my wins
Giving great advice
Cheering me on with boundless belief
Telling me its impolite to say Yep
Because you should always say Yes.

After a couple of months of tests and appointments
And Waiting...

A surgery was booked.
They biopsy while you are asleep.
Test the sample to see if its cancer.
It was.
STAGE 2 OVARIAN CANCER.

(You hear this every day.
If something doesn't feel right
DON'T IGNORE IT.
You don't know how important you are until your loved ones are faced with you not being around anymore.)

My Mum is one of the lucky ones.
Her cancer was slow growing.
And they are confident they got it.
Some treatment will be required.
But she will be ok.

Thousands of women in our country are not so lucky.
