The Cathedral Arcade in Melbourne is one of many beautiful examples of Art Deco architecture and design in Melbourne. As neat as a pin, this elegant little arcade provides the entrance to the Nicholas Building, on the corner of Swanston and Flinders Lane. The building, in its day, was home to many of the Flinders Lane garment traders.
Designed by Harry Norris, The Nicholas Building made up part of an impressive portfolio, including the G J Coles building (now David Jones) and Mitchell House, to name but two. One building close to our hearts is the Northern Bakery (later Tip Top) in Weston St, East Brunswick.
Although somewhat derelict, this iconic brick building has always been a part of how we know East Brunnie. Recently, she has become another victim of the avalanche that is medium density housing.
