POL position: contemporary fashion
Fashion brand POL is a big favourite at htf. HQ. In fact, almost every member of the team owns at least one piece of this fabulous Aussie/Scandi-designed apparel (Eri and Trudi own several!). So there was plenty of excitement in the office when POL released their spring collection on hardtofind.
This latest range continues the brand’s philosophy of laid-back luxury using quality fabrics and simple shapes. Designer Sam Jones has been obsessed with fashion ever since she was small, “even my dolls were stylish,” she says. She spoke with us about what inspires her and the team behind the brand.
What’s the inspiration behind POL?
I wanted to create contemporary clothing for women, that was flattering and didn’t immediately age you or make you look like you were wearing kids’ clothes.
Who is involved in the brand?
POL really is a team effort. My assistants, Christie Barbargello and Emily Walters, help me with designing and images, but there really are so many quiet achievers that help to build a brand. My makers, cutters and all the suppliers in this industry as well as agents, stockists and marketing people that I have worked with for many years have shown so much support. So there really is a huge team behind me.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I really love prints and these will inspire my colour direction for the season. Sourcing is such a big part and we look for fabrics and yarns all over the world.
What’s best part of your job?
Sketching! This really is my passion. I love illustration and designing – with Pantone pens, of course.
And the challenges?
Fashion is a constant evolution – it’s manic and fast and stressful but I absolutely love it.
Which is your favourite POL apparel and why?
At the moment I am loving the joren silk cargo pants. It really is the epitome of laid-back luxury.
