Bonjour! Bienvenue! Happy Bastille Day!
Are you a bit of a Francophile like us? It’s hard to decide what we like best about France – the fashion of the Paris runways, the relaxed elegance of French Provincial furniture, the food (eclairs and macarons and croissants, oh my!), of perhaps the wine… in fact, as this article is being written, the htf. team are enjoying a cheeky bottle of Champagne. And why not? The French have given us so many wonderful things, so let’s celebrate their national day with them. Vive la France!
City vs. country
When we think about French style, two distinct looks come to mind: the chic, avant guard Parisian fashion that looks like it’s stepped out of the pages of Vogue, and the wonderfully rustic, whites, woods, and neutrals of French Provincial. Check out our ‘look book’ to steal these styles.
Get the Parisian chic look
This look is tailored and elegant – perfect for the fashionista. Think chandeliers, silks and high-end finishes. The more opulent and indulgent, the better!
Get the French Provincial look
Escape to the countryside with this relaxed style. Use textured fabrics such as linen in neutral greys and beiges. Don’t over-style and put away that iron! Try loose fabrics draped in unstructured ways and upholster rustic furniture with natural materials.
Bonus: traditional beef daube
You didn’t think we’d leave you without some gorgeous French cuisine, did you? Here’s a fantastic country-style casserole from one of our favourite food magazines, delicious. It’s perfect for winter Sunday cooking and will fill your kitchen with all manner of wonderful, warming smells. Find the recipe here.
