Matt Moran
Top chef, tv host and cookbook author Matt Moran shares his Father’s Day wishlist

Is your dad a kitchen king? A barbecue boss? A sommelier star? For this Father’s Day (Sunday, September 7), we’ve enlisted the help of top Australian chef Matt Moran to come up with the ultimate gift ideas for foodie fathers.

Father’s Day gift expert: top chef Matt Moran

I GREW UP ON A DAIRY FARM in Badgery’s Creek so I have great childhood memories of hanging out with my dad and doing ‘guy stuff’ on the farm – riding dirt bikes, milking and feeding cattle – there was always plenty to do. I have to say Dad instilled a pretty good work ethic in me.

MY KIDS MEAN THE WORLD TO ME. I try to be as hands-on as possible and really encourage, support and listen to them. I guess my approach to fatherhood is pretty ‘real’ – there’s lots of laughter and we have so much fun, but I try to be a good sounding board too. I tend to tell it like it is.

FATHER’S DAY USUALLY STARTS WITH A LAZY MORNING, which is very rare for me, followed by a big brekky with the kids! My daughter will probably make me something for Father’s Day – she’s right into that at the moment, which I love. But if it’s something bought, something for the kitchen would be perfect. Anything my kids give me I consider pretty special.
