Darren Palmer’s hottest interior design trends
We’re fans of The Block at htf. HQ – well, who wouldn’t love spending days shopping and creating gorgeous interiors? Our favourite part of the show is seeing the judges’ reaction when a room is revealed. Whether they love a look or hate it, they always have something interesting to say about how a design works (or doesn’t!). We caught up with one of the judges, interior designer and leading ‘mood maker’ Darren Palmer, to find out his predictions for this season’s hottest new design trends:
Blow up
“Full wall murals and over-sized wall transfers. These were seen at the Moooi installation at the Milan Furniture Fair and even on The Block, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of these. I used a wall transfer mural in one of my own apartments in 2011!”
Quilted
“Soft, quilted texture on sofas and occasional furniture. Patricia Urquiola demonstrates this direction really well with her husk chair for B&B ITALIA, or her Lana Mangas range for GAN.”
Metallic
“Brass, copper and metallic finishes. Tom Dixon, Boca Do Lobo, Brabbu & Christopher Boots all feature metallic heavily in their products. We’re now seeing this trend filtering through into lighting, side tables and accessories.”
Which has been your favourite room on The Block so far? We’ve shared a few of our picks below and showed you how to get the look for yourself.
