Sustainability at home: how to create a green nursery

Setting up a nursery can be a daunting task for new parents, especially with so many products available. Well we’re here to make the task a little bit easier for you. Sonia Pala from EcoLuxe reveals her top 3 things to consider when setting up a nursery, so you can make choices that are good for baby and good for the environment, too.

1. Paint

Choose low or no-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints for your baby’s room, which ensure good indoor air-quality. Good options include Porter’s Paints and Ecolour.

2. Floor coverings

Babies spend a lot of time on the floor, so it’s worth considering what they’re lying on. Use floor coverings made from natural materials such as woven natural wool, coir, jute or sisal. This will go a long way to help creating an allergy-free eco-nursery.

3. Mattresses and bedding

Organic cotton is grown in a way that lessens the impact on the environment and the growers, while also limiting your baby’s exposure to pesticides. If possible purchase a natural organic cotton mattress or if your budget doesn’t permit that, an organic mattress topper. Organic muslin wraps and blankets are also affordable options. And don’t forgot organic cotton soft toys to style your little one’s space.
