Canada

Ah, Canada. The land of maple syrup, stunning mountainscapes and the world’s most likeable PM, Justin Trudeau… This year is the country’s 150th birthday so it would be rude not to pay it a visit and join in the celebrations – there might not be any cake, but there is free entry to all 47 of Canada’s diverse national parks. Lace up your hiking boots and head for Banff National Park, which boasts unbelievable views of the Canadian Rockies or go whale watching from a coastal path at the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia.

Nepal

Nepal has been rated one of the best value places to travel to in 2017 – welcome news to a country that relies on tourism and is still recovering from the devastating 2015 earthquakes. A must-visit for adventurers, the Nepalese Himalayas is home to eight of the 10 highest mountains in the world, providing endless opportunities for hikers and climbers. If that’s not your thing, jungle safaris offer up a chance to get close to the local wildlife and exploring the ‘land of a thousand temples’ will connect you to the country’s rich culture.

Finland

Canada isn’t the only country is full celebration mode this year. Finland is marking its centenary and with free al fresco concerts, culinary events, exhibitions and the opening of a new national park, it’s promising to throw quite the party! Bermuda

This island in the North Atlantic Ocean will host the America’s Cup in 2017 (that’s a pretty big deal in the world of sailing, in case you didn’t know). For the not-so-sport-enthused, the lush greenery, turquoise waters, pink sand beaches and pretty pastel houses should provide plenty of Insta fodder. Top on the list of things to do? Diving, snorkelling, exploring the crystal cave, museum hopping and plenty of chill time soaking up the sun. (Even in winter, temps in Bermuda rarely drop below 16 degrees!)

Myanmar
