Urban Nest Designs on the teal trend

Danica from seller Urban Nest Designs shares her take on sea colours and what makes them a spring/summer trend that comes back year after year.

When it comes to room design, Urban Nest goes by teal.

Aqua, greens and blues are always some of my favourite colours to decorate with. Here in Australia I feel like they are such a fun and fresh way to bring a little of the outside in – reflecting the colour of the ocean and sky so perfectly, and giving off a year round summery vibe.

I find aqua is such a great colour to add into an otherwise neutral or monochrome space. But it also works so well amongst other colours, say with a deep, cool navy in a grown-up space, or contrasted with a vibrant coral or pink for a fun and fresh look.

_mg_4193Day-to-day I love to use aqua or mint with lots of warm, neutral shades. I find they are the perfect colours to accent with natural products like wood – a really lovely home trend that looks both current yet timeless. In my own home I love a jute rug in the living room, and aqua cushions on the couch make the perfect contrast to the warmth of this natural fibre. In an unexpected fabric like velvet, it works even better to add layers of texture and interest. Similarly a pop of aqua on a tea towel in a white kitchen looks so fresh without the commitment of a coloured splashback. In the bedroom I can’t go past white linen, but with the right throw or a fresh cushion you can change the look instantly.

If you do want to go bold in your living areas a large piece of artwork is a fabulous way to make a feature out of one of your walls (without heading back to 1993 by having an actual feature wall). Our Aquatic Dream Framed canvas would have to be my favourite. Aquatic dream framed canvas, $489.95tommy_pastel_abstract_art_print_lamai_anne_mccartan

For something smaller in scale a fun print like this is a great piece.

For something a little more sophisticated I love this handcut artwork that comes framed and ready to hang. I purchased a pair for my mum and they look wonderful in her living room. Decorative vase print, $100 down from $199

In a kid’s room however I think some fun patterned decals are the way to go (to account for fickle little tastes) and these raindrop ones are just too sweet. Match it back with our wooden bunting and you have yourself a vibrant space for any small person. Raindrops wall sticker, $24.95

But what if you want a smaller-scale gift for someone you know loves aqua and blues? For a stationery lover this gorgeous set of two notebooks would definitely be a winner. Even better they are 100% made in Australia. Wallpaper notebooks (set 0f two) from $35

This sweet set of crochet coasters would definitely make a lovely and thoughtful gift, too.
Crochet coasters (set of four), $19.95

Lastly when it comes to wearing your favourite hues, I can’t go past this gorgeous kimono-style summer jacket.

Pair it with this fun nautical knot necklace for the perfect summer outfit.
