Homes: Freunde von Freunden
Based in Berlin, Freunde von Freunden (Friends of Friends) is an online magazine featuring the lives and homes of people with diverse cultural and creative backgrounds. The result is a warm and intimate journey that leaves you feeling like you’ve met these interesting people in some meaningful way. This is not your average interiors site by any means. The latest story features the historic home of brand agency boss Uli Mayer-Johanssen, with its impressive windows and carefully selected furniture and artworks.
Food: The Wednesday Chef
With a few overripe bananas languishing in the fruit bowl, I went in search for an out-of-the-ordinary banana cake recipe and stumbled on a chocolate muscovado banana cake. So far so good. The result, though, not so good – beautiful flavour, but dry due to the wholemeal flour. So when I took a trip over to another favourite food blog, The Wednesday Chef, I was thrilled to find the exact same recipe but with normal plain flour. This blog is great – it’s by Luisa Weiss, a home cook based in Berlin who, in a previous life, worked in New York editing cookbooks. She started the blog in 2005, so the recipe index is extensive (and pleasingly well ordered). Since the birth of baby Hugo 12 months ago, she’s also introduced a section on cooking for children.
Travel: Mr and Mrs Amos
If you haven’t caught up with it yet, you really must take a trip over to Mr and Mrs Amos, a new travel website by writer and editor Lee Tulloch and her partner, photographer Tony Amos. Lee is, of course, the author of the cult novel Fabulous Nobodies, has written extensively for magazines and is also travel editor for Vogue Living. With Lee’s exceptional storytelling and Tony’s sublime photography, this is virtual travel at its finest.
She has 212,000 Twitter followers, more than 500,000 Facebook likes and 60,000 Pinterest followers. Meet Erika Bearman – aka OscarPRGirl – the savvy senior vice president of global communications for fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. The Wall Street Journal described her social networking as “marketing in a Carrie-Bradshaw-esque life stream”. And so it is; a wonderfully frivolous and fabulous insider’s view of the fashion world.
(And if you love Oscar de la Renta as much as we do, you can shop our gorgeous collection of the designer’s jewellery here.)
Washing hanging on the line (anywhere, actually) may not seem the most inspiring of subjects but this quirky Tumblr blog manages to turn this everyday chore into a virtual art installation.
