A silly little word is Fracsnara, in fact its not even a word as the infuriating spell check on the word processor keeps screaming! Ok, alright Fracsnara is actually Aran scarf backwards. Why? You ask. Well its kind of obvious isn't it? The Aran Islands are situated on the West Coast of Ireland which is on the complete opposite side of the world. Aran jumpers originated from here. If you were to read the label on the jumper from here it would be upside down. So thats exactly why we have written it back to front.
Aran jumpers, traditionally made by the wives of Aran Islanders were knitted from an unscoured wool leaving it full of lanoline. This oil kept the jumper virtually waterproof, perfect for the Irish climate. The jumpers traditionally had a cable knit on the chest similar to the cable of this scarf.
This scarf is ethically made at our little family factory in East Brunswick. Made from surplus Australian Lambs wool.
