40cm high x 40cm wide x 27cm deep.
A Zaishu will take up to 200kg of weight.
Our Zaishus are made from premium grade birch plywood sourced from eco certified (FSC) forests in Europe.
The finish has 2 coats of durable furniture grade varnish and is water resistant. You can put hot cups of tea or coffee on the surface and to clean use a soft damp cloth. The colours will not fade but it is best to keep your Zaishu out of constant direct sunlight. We do not recommend your Zaishu is kept
outside or used as permanent outdoor furniture.
About the maker:
Designed and made in Melbourne by Matthew Butler in collaboration with artist Ash Keating.
Ask Keating is a collectable Melbourne based artist. His latest work was purchased by the National Gallery of Victoria. He also painted a large mural on the outside wall of the gallery for the galleries Melbourne Now exhibition last year.
A Zaishu is more than a slot together seat/side table. Its a way of showing how culture, creativity, sustainability and design can be used together in a socially responsible way. We first exhibited Zaishus at The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) in 2004. Since then we have made Zaishus around the world, working with hundreds of talented artists. Our name comes from the word Zaisu, a small chair used in traditional Japanese houses.
