How to play Senet
The winner is the first player to move all his counters off the board. The counters move along the numbered trajectory the number of squares indicated by the roll of the dices.
To begin, the counters (black and white alternately) are placed on the squares 1 to 10.
The players take turns rolling the dices until one of them get 1. He plays with the black counters and moves the counter from the square 10 to the square 11.
This player continues rolling the dices and moving any of his counters the number of squares indicated by the dices until he rolls a 2 or 3, at which point, after moving he loses his turn to his opponent.
The other player, must move the first time from the 9th square, and any counter thereafter until he loses his turn (by rolling a 2 or a 3).
When a counter lands on a square occupied by an enemy counter, the enemy must go to the square previously occupied by the other counter.
Two counters of the same color cannot occupy the same square.
Two counters of the same color in adjacent squares, protect each other from an enemy attack.
Three counters of the same color in adjacent squares form a bloc that can neither be attacked nor passed by the enemy, but can be passed by counters of the same color.
When it is not possible to advance, a counter must retreat, moving in the opposite direction, or if the corresponding square were already occupied, that player would lose his turn.
If a counter lands on the square 27, called trap he must go back to the square 1 or the nearest empty square if that one were occupied.
Square 26, 28, 29 and 30 are safe, and counters cannot be attacked on them.
Goal
When a player manages to place all of his counters on the last row of the board (spaces 21-30), he may begin to move them off as they land exactly on space 30. If a counter on the last row is sent back to the first second row, the other counters of the same color must remain on the board until the counter that was sent back can return to the other counters of the same color must remain on the board until the counter that was sent back can return to the last row.
Score
In a series of games, the following scoring is used: The winner gets 1 point for each enemy counter left remaining on the last row (except for those on safe squares), 2 points for each second row and 3 points for each on the first row.
