• About Pukekos in Gumboots

Pukekos in Gumboots was created by two best friends who bounced in and out of each others lives since the age of 10. The idea for a business came when they were walking along Hudsons Beach looking for pipis, on the beautiful Awhitu peninsula in NZ (a place very special to both friends, who grew up spending weekends there at a family beach house). Summers were spent in bare feet or jandels (thongs to the Aussies) or with gumboots at the back door for the wet and cold winter months.

Why Pukekos? They are a huge part of our beach environment, hanging around in the swamps and dams, strutting across our front lawn every morning looking for bread scraps. Pukekos are mischevious and bold (like us when we were young girls running on the beach in gumboots). Pukekos have their feet constantly in the water, so to keep their feet dry we put them in gumboots! It also makes our company initials PIG -- our second favourite thing!
