Decorative yet utilitarian, this has been a consistent thread to Dimity Kidston’s design ethos over the last 20 years. Her distinctive hand carved ceramics echo arboreal and eastern influences. Distressed surfaces, subtle handmade irregularities and variations in colour lend a feeling of being pre-loved. Each piece is handmade at every stage of its creation and as such no two pieces are exactly alike. Her current range of beakers, breakfast bowls, platters and large display bowls are individually carved utilising a sgraffito technique where the pigmented slip is etched from the surface by hand, revealing a beautifully textured and tactile design.

Dimity is passionate about offering people products that have carefully considered both the aesthetic and function. All lovingly handmade Dimity Kidston objects pay homage to time honoured tradition and techniques yet are designed to be able to withstand the rigours of modern life.

From an early age Dimity was exposed to beautiful, whimsical and naive form, colour and light. Her interest in design, textiles and ceramics was nurtured by her creative mother and honed at the Australian National University and the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Scotland where she studied both textiles and ceramics.
