Winemakers favourite!
Zinfandel is not a widely planted grape variety in Australia, but it is one of the most popular red wines of California, and also in Italy where it is known as Primitivo.
The 2007 Renaissance Zinfandel is only the second vintage of the variety for Rutherglen Estates and the development of the style is a particular passion of Chief Winemaker Nicole Esdaile, who, having worked in California, recognised the variety's potential for the late ripening and 'difficult' variety in the warm, dry conditions of Rutherglen. This is a delicious, full-bodied red wine that features sweet red berry fruit, liquorice, coffee and chocolate aromas, with a wonderful length of flavour. Maturation in American oak barrels adds complexity, sturcture and hints of coconut and vanilla.
The wines of the Renaissance series of Rutherglen Estates are exquisitely packaged, with individual and textural label images created by Australian artist Fleur Marsden, each selected to reflect the texture and personality of the wine and the vintage. The 2007 Renaissance Zinfandel image is a lithopgraphic print taken from etchings of  banksia leaf rubbings, and its rich burgundy, gold and green colours prefectly represent the layers of bursting berry flavours.
