All Vestli House products are named after strong historical women who had the courage to go their own way. We don’t put any values in what they are known for, the important thing  is that they had the guts to do and act in things they believed in. According to Madeleine Albright “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other”.

  • Margareth: Named after Margareth Thatcher, the ”iron lady” and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. What could be more perfect to describe her sharpness and ability to fight than the leopard design.
  • Nora: After Nora in the Norwegian author Henrik Ibsen play ” A Doll house”. The play was controversial when first published, as it is sharply critical of 19th century marriage norms. The inspiration for the design of Nora is from old Norwegian Folklore.
  • Gro: After Gro Harlem Bruntland. Dr Brundtland was Prime Minister in Norway and became Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). The red rose is also the symbol for the political party she represented. But this was not in my mind when the design was made.
  • Mary: After Mary, Queen of Scots,(known in French as Marie Stuart). According to the Scots, she was their real and true Queen. Tartan/plaid pattern is a traditional Scotland design.
  • Liv: Liv means life in Norwegian/Swedish and the pattern is full of hope and life.  One strong Liv is Liv Ullman, a famous Norwegian actress and film director. She was also one of the muses of the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.
  • Astrid: This colorful design is named after Astrid Lindgren. A Swedish author best known for the Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson-on-the-Roof and the Six Bullerby Children book series.
  • Hedda: Are also named after one of Henrik Ibsen female book characters, Hedda Gabler. The character of Hedda is considered by some critics as one of the great dramatic roles in the theatre world, the ”female Hamlet”.
  • Hillary: After Hillary Clinton, colorful and controversial person and therefore I think that this paisley patterns suites her perfectly. For the moment she is serving in the administration of President Barack Obama. She was a United States Senator for New York from 2001 to 2009.
  • Elenor: After Elenor Roosevelt. Strong lady behind the scen, and this classic pattern is just right to describe her. Behind every successful man there is a strong women.
  • Karen: After Karen Blixen the Danish author. The zebra design is to honor her books about Africa.
  • Madeleine: After Madeleine Albright. One of the first women with real political power. The orchid patterns is elegant and clean.
  • Elisabeth: After Queen Elisabeth 1 of England, she conquered the world for England. The lace design reflex the time when she rulded.
  • Jane: Jane and Tarzan, but also Jane after Jane Fonda and the camouflage design is inspired by her activity against the Vietnam war.
  • Jackie: America’s first lady when she was merried to John F Kennedy. She was known for her style and elegance. The stripe pattern is always classic  and never goes out of time.
  • Pippi: After Astrid Lindgrends “Pippi Longstocking”. Pippi is unconventional, assertive, and has superhuman strength.
  • Cathy: After Cathy Freeman, Australian Aboriginal runner who is particularly associated with the 400 m race. She became the Olympic champion in the 2000 Sydney games. She had a whole nations expetation on her shoulder that night. When I was doing this designs she came up in my mind and the butterfly symbolise that everything is possible.
  • Frida: After Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter. She was best known self-portraits, her work is also remembered for its intense, vibrant colors.
  • Julia: Julia Child (the movie Julia and Julia). She was an American chef, author, and television personality and introduced French cuisine and cooking techniques to the American mainstream through her cookbooks, beginning in 1961 with Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her television programs, notably The French Chef, which premiered in 1963.
  • Grace: Grace Kelly of course. She was an American actress who married Prince Rainer of Monaco. The Lily is elegant and needs no explanation.
